Laban Carrick Hill is a 20-year resident of Burlington and Winooski. He is a high school and college teacher of literature and writing, the author of more than 35 children’s and YA books, and father of two amazing young women who are graduates of BHS. His books have garnered more than 40 awards and honors, including a National Book Award Finalist for Harlem Stomp! A Cultural History of the Harlem Renaissance and a Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Award for Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave. He has taught all over the globe, including Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka.
