Shakespeare As Community Builder

In spring 2014, 9th grade humanities teachers and students at Winooski Middle/High School worked with community partners to bring Shakespeare’s poetry off the page and into the bodies, voices, and imaginations of the school community. This program brought together three disciplines (social studies, language arts, and performing arts) to help students build the skills they need to succeed in today’s world. In particular, teachers and students explored persistence, one of Winooski’s new Graduate Expectations. Through collaboration with theater artists and educators from our community, this program also gave teachers the opportunity to learn from local experts and strengthen their curriculum for future years.
