Winooski and Burlington Schools Districts recognize that supporting teacher learning is fundamental to reshaping our educational system. As a result, we are working toward a systemic shift in the way teachers are supported to learn, collaborate, implement, and share the practices that help them meet the needs of all students.
In order to help spread the innovation and learning of our first two years school-wide, the Partnership worked with faculty and administrators to design the Partner Teachers program at Winooski Middle/High School and Burlington High School. This program aims to support and expand on new approaches to teaching and learning that are already emerging at WMHS and BHS. By providing teachers with time and support to innovate and collaborate, we hope to build an expanding community of Winooski and Burlington teachers equipped to lead the remodeling of our schools into a student-centered learning system.
The 2015-16 Partner Teachers at WMHS are:
ELL/Science Team: Inge White, Nellie Maley, Dave McNally
WHS Math Team: Tom Payeur, Rebecca Mellen, Melissa Mason, Sierra Thibodeau
WMS Team Nexus: Dana Gore, Anderea Wheeland, Gina Krol, Callie Reinker, Laura Graves, Andrea Boon, Melissa Mintzer
Partner Teachers Program Description
The Winooski Middle/High School Partner Teachers program aims to integrate the project-based, student-driven practices in classrooms throughout the school. To accomplish this, Partner Teachers have formed collaborative teams working to build personalized, project-driven learning into traditional academic classes by collaboratively planning and co-teaching. This gives participating teachers the support and flexibility to integrate proficiencies, personalization, problem-based inquiry, and community-based learning into their classrooms.
